There are a few side effects that come with vaping, some of which are very easy to avoid. I just want to start out this video by saying everyone’s body reacts to things differently, so take everything with a grain of salt.
First up, is dehydration. This is one of the most common side effects of vaping as the PG in an e-liquid actually draws in moisture. Now PG stands for propylene glycol and is one of the main ingredients in e-juice. The easiest way to counteract this is to simply drink more water to get the moisture back into your system. Another thing you can do is get juices with a lower PG ratio. For example, an 80VG 20PG juice or even a 100% VG juice. You’ll notice, however, that with lower PG level juices, the juice itself is much thicker. So, just make sure that your tank can absorb thicker liquids.
Next up, we have a sore throat and coughing. This can also be attributed to the PG levels in your e-juice. There’s actually a lot of people allergic to propylene glycol. If you do have a PG allergy, you’ll definitely notice a sore throat and coughing whenever you do vape. Again, you can combat this by getting higher VG juices. Another factor to a sore throat and coughing when vaping is the nicotine. Nicotine and PG are what provide the throat hit or “harshness” when it comes to a vape. If your nicotine strength is too high for your intake, you’ll get a throat hit that’s way too harsh to handle. If this is the case, try stepping your nicotine strength in your next juice purchase.
Too much nicotine can also lead to nausea, headaches, or dizziness. This is known as nicotine poisoning, which usually goes away on its own after having some water and putting down the vape for a bit. I don’t know if it's just me, but I weirdly get the hiccups whenever I have too much nicotine? And not even just like, one hiccup, it gets bad. I don't know, let me know if you get them too by leaving a comment down below. Maybe I’m just weird.
Another common side effect to vaping is what we call “Vapers tongue”. Now, we did a full video on vapers tongue, but in short, it’s when you vape the same flavour for a prolonged period and can no longer taste the flavour anymore. This can be avoided by switching flavours every once in a while to refresh your taste pallette.
Let’s talk about the side effects of vaping if you’re coming from smoking.Â
A survey was conducted by Dr Farsalinos on 19,000 vapers. The survey reported overall better physical health, improved breathing, sense of smell, reduced cough and more.Â
So at the end of the day, if you’re debating on making the switch over to vaping, you may indeed run into some of these side effects. Most of the negative effects, however, are likely to be temporary and minor. Anything that you inhale that isn’t air will obviously be negative for your health, but vaping is significantly cleaner than traditional tobacco.
